I'm also a teacher and IT responsible at a high school in Spain. We have the same problem: We have now 18 Promethean boards working with Ubuntu 12.04 and we want to change to Ubuntu 14.04, but Activinspire doesn't work.

Thanks for letting us know about your issue. What is the resolution the Surface is using? Do you have it attached to an external display, with a cloned display to another device, when this happens?
Please also make sure that you are using the latest version of Activinspire. You can find the version by going to the help menu, then choosing About. Once there, the version will be in bold at the top of the Window. If the version is less than 1.8.64868, then please go back to the help menu, and choose Check for Updates. This will update the software to the latest version.
Once you have the latest version, please try again if you had to update. Please let us know if the issue is still occuring by replying to this forum post. Are you trying to save the flipcharts to a thumb drive, or USB stick of some sort? We need to know if you are using removable media to store the items, because when this type of media is not properly ejected from the machine, the system is still writing to the drive when it is removed. This is the most common type of data corruption that we see with flipcharts.
If you are using this type of media to save, please make sure that you are ejecting the USB drive properly before physically removing it from the system. This will help you to avoid having files that do not get saved properly. Please let us know if this is not the type of system in which you are trying to store your files.

Have you tried making sure the USB cable from the board to the computer is less than 5 meters, and is connected at both locations? Please also try taking the USB cable out of the computer, and out of the board, and re-seating them in different USB ports would help.
Also please provide your board's product code, so that we may see the exact hardware that your board comes with. Also, if you have a wallbox, or some kind of termination box that the USB cable goes to from the board, then please bypass that and make a direct connection from the back of the board, to the computer, and then let us know if there is any change.
Please provide your results by responding to this forum post, and then we can continue troubleshooting your issue.

The same file should be able to be used for Spanish as well, as they both use the same character-sets. Have you tried downloading the Handwriting Recognition Tools from PrometheanPlanet.com? Please try the program, and then let us know if Spanish does not get recognized properly.

All you will need to do is look for the Activmanager, in the system tray next to the clock. It is a white box with our logo inside. If you hover over it, it should say "Activmanager." Please right click this icon, and go to the projector tab. Once there, un-check the box that says you want to receive warnings. This should disable that feature for you.

I have tried to install the personal version of activInspire on my home laptop. It is saved but will not open because it says there is a problem with word 2013. Am I doing something wrong or am I out of luck doing work at home?

As it says, MS Office 2013 is not supported by ActivOffice.
We do not currently have any time frame when MS Office 2013 will be supported but we always pass the message to our developers.

Please could you inform us of the ActivDriver version which can be found in Control panel and at the bottom of the screen that states Copyright Promethean 20xx. version xxxx . Not all activDriver shows that the TouchBoard is connected.
Please could you also calibrate the TouchBoard using the Windows OS calibration as it needs to be calibrated using the computer and also try another computer with ActivDriver installed.
Should this not resolve the issue please contact us and provide us with the serial number of the TouchBoard

Please could you let us know the version of ActivInspire installed? To find this information, open ActivInspire, click on Help>About and this will be in bold text at the top of the window which appears.
Please could you also ensure that your java, flash and flash for other browsers is up to date?
To download "Flash for other browsers" please go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
Please could you also clear your temp folder? If you are using a Windows operating system, this can be found in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp or by clicking Start/Windows button> in the search field type %temp%.

Hi Gita.
Thanks for posting on the forum.
When in ActivInspire as default the setting will be set to the "Studio" look at feel. You can change to the "Primary" look and feel by going to the launch Dashboard>Configure> Tick the box which says "Launch next time using the Primary (or studio) look and feel.
The only difference is the design of 'Primary' is aimed at Primary education.
