Ana,

This is actually a pretty big issue, especially for most classroom teachers who are not experienced as computer technicians. It is fairly easy to instruct users on going to the ActivInspire Help menu within the software and checking for updates so they get the latest version of the ActivInspire software - but it is a bit much to require that teachers also be able to SEPARATELY check the driver version, know how to uninstall the old, find the location on Promethean Planet for the driver updates, select the correct driver for their system, and download and install it. In addition, most schools and districts do not have the capacity to send out a technicians to do this.

The updated drivers should be included in the software update and should either overwrite the old driver or uninstall the old and replace it with the new. In fact, during the InstallShield Wizard process, it DOES actually check the version and then, modifies, repairs, or removes drivers and replaces with the newest version. The only time I uninstall the driver first is when there is when the driver is the current version, but is not working correctly (corrupt file or incomplete install). Then I uninstall and re-download and install. I have occasionally had to do this for the entire ActivInspire program. Note- I am an instructional technologist. Our district, as many others has an understaffed tech services, too few technicians and has eliminated almost all instructional technologists. Promethean really does need to have a cleaner, more user-friendly method for updates.
