The flip chart that you have recently created, has this been created inside ActivInspire? If so, please could you confirm the version of ActivInspire, to find this information launch the program and click on Help>About. In a bold text the version will be listed.
Also, what operating system are you currently using?
If you save a flip chart to a folder location rather than the desktop, do you still experience a grey X through the icon?
Are you currently connected to a network?
